Plagiarism Policy

The Journal of Engineering Education and Practice (JEEP) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity. We take plagiarism very seriously and have established a strict policy to detect, address, and prevent any instances of plagiarism in the research published within the journal. This policy ensures that all content published is original, properly cited, and adheres to ethical research standards.

Key Aspects of the Plagiarism Policy:

  1. Definition of Plagiarism: Plagiarism is the act of using someone else's ideas, data, text, or intellectual property without proper acknowledgment. This includes:

    • Direct Copying: Reproducing text, data, or ideas without proper citation.
    • Paraphrasing Without Proper Citation: Rewriting someone else’s work in your own words without providing a citation to the original source.
    • Self-Plagiarism: Reusing your own previously published work without proper citation or without obtaining necessary permissions.
    • Uncredited Use of Figures, Tables, or Images: Using charts, graphs, images, or other content from other sources without giving credit.
  2. Plagiarism Detection:

    • JEEP uses plagiarism detection software such as iThenticate, Turnitin, or other reputable tools to screen submitted manuscripts for any potential instances of plagiarism.
    • Authors are strongly encouraged to conduct their own plagiarism check before submitting to ensure that all sources are appropriately cited.
  3. Actions Taken in Cases of Plagiarism:

    • During Submission: If plagiarism is detected before the manuscript undergoes peer review, the manuscript will be returned to the author for revision and proper citation. The manuscript will not be processed further until the issue is resolved.
    • During Peer Review: If plagiarism is detected during the peer review process, the manuscript will be rejected, and the authors will be notified of the reason. The manuscript will not move forward for publication.
    • After Publication: If plagiarism is identified after an article has been published, the article will be retracted. A retraction notice will be published, explaining the reason for the retraction. The retraction notice will be linked to the original article to maintain the transparency of the scientific record.
  4. Consequences for Authors:

    • Authors found to have plagiarized may face serious consequences, including:
      • Rejection of the manuscript and potential future submissions.
      • Reporting of the incident to the author’s academic institution, employer, or other relevant parties.
      • A permanent ban from submitting to the journal.
    • This ensures that the academic community adheres to high ethical standards and that research published in JEEP maintains its credibility.
  5. Ethical Responsibility of Authors:

    • Authors are expected to submit only original work and must ensure proper acknowledgment of all sources, including direct quotes, paraphrased ideas, and borrowed data.
    • Authors must ensure that all work is properly cited and that appropriate permissions are obtained for previously published material, figures, and images.
  6. Preventing Plagiarism:

    • To prevent plagiarism, JEEP encourages authors to familiarize themselves with proper citation practices and to follow recognized citation styles such as APA, IEEE, or other relevant guidelines.
    • Authors should avoid excessive reliance on direct quotations and paraphrase others’ ideas in their own words, always citing the original source.
  7. Maintaining Integrity:

    • JEEP is committed to upholding academic integrity and transparency. If any ethical violations are discovered post-publication, the journal will take immediate corrective action, including issuing retractions or corrections to maintain the integrity of the scientific record.

Through this plagiarism policy, JEEP ensures the quality and credibility of the research it publishes, fostering an academic environment based on trust, originality, and ethical practices.
